Greipel wins in San Remo Back to news items

Under perfect conditions in northern Italy the race towards San Remo contained a lot of spectacle. Cavendish was the first favourite to drop the pace on La Manie. Other teams had to take control, and it was the team of Nibali and Sagan who put the pedal down on the final hills.

André Greipel was able to stay in the leading group. It seemed like everything would stay together towards the Poggio, but a crash on top of the Cipressa got a rupture in the leading group. Jelle Vanendert and André were involved and they lose precious time.

In a split second everything is over. Milan-San Remo might be a long race, but it can be decided in a very short time period.

Finally Simon Gerrans wins in a group of 3.
