Greipel wins in Luxembourg! Back to news items

André Greipel has won the first stage in the Tour de Luxembourg. after 181 kilometer, he defeated Appolonio, Dumoulin, Feuillu and De Kort.

Timmer and Rosendo were in the breakaway of the day. They took maximum three minutes. In the last 50k, Jens Voigt attacked, but the teams of the sprinters were to strong.

With this victory, the German took his 11th win of the season, after his triple win in Tour of Belgium last week.

Sports director Michiel Elijzen: "The team of leader Engoulvent controlled the first part of the race. At 50k from the finish, Radio Shack-Nissan-trek took the lead. Jens Voigt attacked but together with Team Sky, Lotto Belisol controlled the bunch. At 10k from the finish, Voigt was caught. Lotto Belisol did a perfect lead out and André won the stage!"
